Why You Want to Avoid Orange Lipstick Shades if You Want Whiter Teeth

Posted on 7/26/2021 by Fern Creek Dentistry
Why You Want to Avoid Orange Lipstick Shades if You Want Whiter TeethWomen who wear lipstick as part of their day-to-day look know that their choice of lipstick impacts how their clothes are perceived and how their teeth look. There are better shades and styles that can be used to enhance your smile, from lipstick, stains, glosses, mattes, and chapstick—all of it can help or hurt the whiteness of your smile. The best rule of thumb? If you plan on showing your teeth, avoid orange shades in any form.

Why Orange?

Orange is a particular color with particular needs. Because the hues in orange coloration need to be so bright—it ends up making your teeth look dimmer and dingier than they really are. Even in cases where orange is just a base color, like in a rust-colored lipstick, there is a danger of this occurring. Further, some colors which have yellow as a base also are bad at this, but they aren't as dramatic an issue as orange.

What Other Colors?

There is an entire world of science and thought that goes into the coloration and creation of lipstick. It isn't the case that makeup creators made oranges with the purpose of making your teeth look darker—they just create what will match particular items of clothing. So, you should pick lipsticks that match your clothing but have a dark or deep undertone, even if the top is a bright nude or pink. Most people find their best colors are compliments of blues, reds, and purples. If you have the ability to try samples before you buy, do it. But remember to stay away from orange.
